Winter in Yuma and a prodigal's return to blogging #sol18

It's been cold in Yuma, - 7° when I woke up this morning, up to 20° during the day and back down to 12° now. Excuse me if I seem obsessed with the temperature, wind too. I have breathing problems and winter walking can be a problem. I stay in, watch conditions for best time to walk. It's time to change the green, green blog banner photo for something more seasonally appropriate -- not picturesque snow because we haven't had more than a moderate dusting. Gray sky, yellow grass and bare branches are less aesthetic but more representative. This one should do nicely.

If not the best time of the year for old wheezer walkabouts, it is a good time to write, do online research and take courses. I registered for two Electronic Village Online TESOL workshops and if not behind yet, will soon be but enjoying the mental exercise and global conversation.
For five weeks in January and February, TESOL experts and participants from around the world engage in collaborative online discussions or hands-on virtual workshops of professional and scholarly benefit. These sessions bring together participants for a longer period of time than is permitted by land-based professional development conventions and allow a fuller development of ideas than is otherwise possible.
Sessions are free and open to anyone around the globe. It is not necessary to be a TESOL or IATEFL member nor to attend the TESOL Convention in order to participate. All you need is access to the Internet
Next, February 12-26, comes Engagement in a Time of Polarization

Then there's the future focused online book club that alternates between science fiction and the future of education.

So what, if anything, do these have to do with life in Yuma? A lot, but I'll save that for another post. Now for that cup of hot tea and a few frivolous videos before bed...

  1. You have set up surefire ways to keep the home fires burning-- in your brain. I love the idea of online courses when it's not feasible to go out. Tea sounds like a good plan, too....

    1. ...and free courses at that. Still, I'm happy to see sun out today and the temperature up enough for a modest walk.
