Save the last slice for me #sol18

Today is the last day of March and this year's blogging challenge. Tomorrow is Easter and April Fools Day.  I decorated for both: put plastic Easter eggs (rocks inside to keep them from blowing away) under the tumbleweed and sat La Calavera Catrina in her Easter apron on the porch.

Now for today's slice, a reflection or what next? If both, I should have started sooner. Last slice indeed. I thought about both, made notes.

Slicing the staff of life #sol18

El Almuerzo by Diego Velázquez (Public Domain)

Slicing it one day at a time brings me to day five of Two Writing Teachers' 11th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge (SOLSC).

Today's life slice is bread: the staff of life, sustenance beyond just  food “bread and butter.” Bread or dough is cash, plain and simple. Breaking bread with others is more than sharing a meal: joining in and sustaining the spirit — a fitting image for the spiritual nourishment of sharing words in a writing community.

Read more about about bread as a global staff of life and even poetry: Pablo Neruda's "Oda al pan" and César Vallejo's "El pan nuestro" (among others) because "poetry, like bread, is for everyone." (from "Como Tú" by Roque Dalton, translation by Jack Hirschman)

a minimalist #solsc18

…10 minute variety, ne plus ultra for the 4th day of my 4th SOLSC . Last year I posted every day of March, my first and so only completion. Year one was close, shut down by computer problems in final stretch -- close but no cigar. The next one barely made it out of the starting gate. That was to be the heart of today's post, inspired by Puro Veronica's day two blog post.

Such are the best laid plans, even an early start. Then the day went south. I'd write more but time's up. There's always tomorrow. That's life and why this slice of it is so thin.

Welcome to day four of Two Writing Teachers' 11th Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge (SOLSC).

Slicing images take a swerve from TWT's traditional, perhaps even trademarked orange slice. Other slices: other fruit, bread, pizza, fruit slice puzzles, cheese ...

the serendipity of yellow umbrellas and paying attention, #sol17 Tuesday

pay attention to what you pay attention to…I was going to write about paying attention on a walk, but a thunderstorm struck. So I returned to this Tuesday's prompt page, re-reading and connecting rain, yellow umbrellas, paying attention, and random acts of kindness (RAK).

Serendipity.
my Tiffany blue umbrella
My own umbrella is Tiffany blue, but the color doesn't matter, not as much as the rest. Kindness emerges from paying attention and vice versa.

Who hasn't seen the bumper stickers, tees, tattoos, memes, lists and articles, a foundation and a national day The complete quote is actually, "Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty." I first saw it in Davis, CA, 1993 as a bumper sticker on a VW bus.

on my porch at the #Manor with La Catrina #sol17 Day 24/31

Image may contain: house and outdoor
Most Manor apartments share front porch space. This past Christmas, my next door neighbor Ken and I decorated our respective areas. My green Halloween lights were still up. Ken went with red lights and wrapped the posts. I added Christmas decorations and lights to a tumbleweed. The barely visible garden gnome is a zombie.

a #blogging inventory of sorts #sol17 20/31

Image result for blogging

blogging since 2006 on multiple blogs, I'd been worrying about a long blogging dry spell. That is one of the reasons why I'm slicing this month -- not the only reason but one that matters to me. A recent #sol17 slice that commemorated reaching the 500 post mark moved me to inventory my own blogging history. Most blogs have a three year life span: there are more inactive blogs out there in the blogosphere than active ones.

#SoL15 musings on moving, #clmooc, #adjunct blogging

…#RWTblog, #EdBlogNet…but still ignoring the other. Tumbling and social media writing don't count here.

Add procrastination. Tagged for both #sol15 and #adjunct. Check. Evasive multitasking by hashtag. Tagged for #clmooc, hold the apps. Check. There is a limit to how many/much I can wrap my mind around or juggle at one time -- and am already dropping too many as it is.
Beautiful Sliced Fruit-Shaped Adhesive Notes
Sliced fruit sticky notes: a Japanese office supplies novelty by d-bros
As usual, I have no idea where this will take me but now have a habit of starting with an image. Serendipity rules more often than not: what catches -- and pleases my eye. I saved slice images on the last hard drive: TWT logos, fruit, pizza, bread, etc. Dexter is the most popular result googling Slice of Life images. I haven't been in that kind of mood. Not yet.

This morning I had a topic in mind, no doubt about moving, book and other triage, but forgot.

#SoL15 Day 20: patterns and remembrances

detail from Dali's The Persistence of Memory
Another night and even day of intermittent sleeping and waking. I've been unable to stay awake evenings, slipping into sleep early, before posting, then waking way too early in the morning and sleeping again about the time I'd have wanted to wake up in the first place. The pattern is the same but the times vary. The effect on my daily routine, memory and general state of mind is surrealistic, extending beyond quotidian minutiae. Nothing, not even memory, looks or feels quite the same through this lens.
